Police urge residents to lock car doors after recent burglary (VIDEO)

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – The Byram Township Police Department want to remind residents to lock their car doors after a recent burglary.

This video is of an actual motor vehicle burglary which occurred in the township on Wednesday at 3:35 a.m The suspect can be seen entering the unlocked vehicle in the driveway of a residence and then rummaging through the center console and passenger compartment.

***VIDEO FOOTAGE OF MOTOR VEHICLE BURGLARY***The Byram Police Department is posting this video in the interest of public safety. This video is of an actual motor vehicle burglary which occurred in Byram Township on 04/26/2017 at 3:35 AM. The suspect can be seen entering the UNLOCKED vehicle in the driveway of a residence and then rummaging through the center console and passenger compartment. Shortly after the end of the clip, the unknown suspect flees the area on foot. The crime took less than 10 seconds to commit and could have possibly been prevented.The crime was captured by the victim's private video surveillance equipment. The exact location will not be released in order to protect the victim's privacy. However, it should be noted that this type of crime is not limited to one geographic area of the township and all residents should do the following to help protect themselves from becoming the victim of a crime:1. LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS.2. Do not leave valuable items out in plain view. I.E. GPS, laptops, cash, etc.3. Report suspicious persons/vehicles/etc., especially late at night in residential areas.4. Try to park in well lit open areas, consider installing a motion activated light in your driveway.5.
