Mount Olive Twp. (Morris County, NJ)–On Tuesday evening August 1st the Mount Olive Township Police Department hosted our first ever National Night Out event. What an amazing experience! We are so pleased by the positive responses and overwhelming support from the event that we felt obliged to take a moment to thank all of the amazing people & groups that made it possible and to express our gratitude to the community for coming out in droves and making the event a success.
So what exactly is National Night Out (NNO) and why did Chief Stephen Beecher decide to bring the amazing program to Mount Olive Township?
NNO is a national effort and organization which is based on, “an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.” Since his promotion to Chief of Police in August of 2016, Beecher has communicated a strong message to the police ranks and to the community that his vision is to improve upon the department’s Community Outreach.
However, “Our department will only benefit from the creation of new relationships and the nurturing of existing friendships.” We believe that NNO is a perfect catalyst to achieve this mission.
The Mount Olive Township Police Department would not have been able to accomplish this amazing event without the overwhelming support of so many amazing people and groups. Finally, being that the Mount Olive Township Police Department has been the recipients and beneficiaries of a plethora of positive comments and feedback we would like to express our gratitude to our amazing community. We were very fortunate to have great weather and experience an abundance of fun & excitement Tuesday night. However, the greatest accomplishment was the opportunity to interact with our citizens, meet so many new people and to start new friendships and conversations. We hope the community feels the event was as rewarding as we did. We also hope that the public was able to see the many other Community Outreach Programs that we are offering and will take advantage them in the near future. At the event we were glad to release our newest 2017 edition of our Cop Card Program, introduce our new LEAD (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) USA Flag painted Humvee vehicle and provide Child Identification Kits.
