Hackettstown man charged with unlawful taking, DWI

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Hackettstown man is facing numerous charges including DWI after he allegedly took a car without consent Thursday evening.

At 7:18 p.m., a township officer responded to the area of Route 46 and Wolfe Rd in an attempt to locate a vehicle a 2013 Hyundai that was allegedly taken without the owner’s consent, police said.

The officer located the vehicle stopped in traffic at the intersection of Route 46 east and Wolfe Rd, and then initiated a motor vehicle stop with the vehicle in the area of Vasa Drive, police said.

The driver, David R. Sivertsen, 43, was ordered from the vehicle, and placed under arrest. As the officer spoke to Sivertsen he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and he appeared to be impaired, police said.

Sivertsen was charged with unlawful taking of means of conveyance, DWI, reckless driving, driving while suspended, unlicensed driver, failure to exhibit driver’s license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and using a motor vehicle without owner’s permission. He was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a court hearing.
