SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sparta man who was arrested for allegedly violating a temporary restraining order now faces additional charges for allegedly committing a lewd act in the Sparta police station.

Jose Lewis, 45, was charged with contempt of court for violating a restraining order, lewdness and harassment, police said.

On Thursday at 10:45 a.m., two township officers investigated a complaint of a violation of a temporary restraining order, police said.

Lewis was contacted and transported to Sparta Police Headquarters to be processed for the violation, police said.

While sitting on the bench in the cellblock processing room, Lewis allegedly removed all of his clothing and began fondling himself, police said.

Lewis refused attempts by the officers to cover him with a blanket. He finally dressed himself after officers agreed to transport him to Newton Memorial Hospital, police said.

Upon his release from the hospital, Lewis was transported to the Keogh Dwyer Correctional Facility pending his court appearance on the contempt of court charge and the Sparta Township charges, police said.
