WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A man is facing an assault charge after allegedly punching a man because he didn’t have a cigarette.
On Monday at 2:37 p.m., township police responded to the area of Patriots Plaza, located at 57 Route 46, for an assault, police said.
Through a police investigation it was determined that Nathaniel Holmes entered the plaza, approached a male and asked him for a cigarette, police said.
When the man told Holmes he did not have a cigarette, he punched the victim in the face, arm, ribs and back, police said.
Multiple witnesses observed the incident and were able to identify the suspect as Holmes. He was later located walking on Route 46 and was placed under arrest, police said.
Holmes was charged with assault and later released with a pending court date in Washington Township Municipal Court, police said.
The victim was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for evaluation, police said.
