NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A 25-year-old Newton man was injured Monday afternoon when he was struck by a car while crossing at the intersection of Trinity Street, Water Street and Mill Street, Newton Lt. Robert Osborn said.

The pedestrian, identified as Donovan Daniels, complained of pain to his right leg and was transported to the Newton Medical Center by Lakeland Emergency Squad, Osborn said.

The incident occurred at 3:38 p.m., as Elisha Johnson, 30, of Newton was operating a 2005 Honda Civic and was turning right from Water Street onto Mill Street when she failed to observe Daniels to be present within the crosswalk before striking him, Osborn said.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Daniels had the ‘Walk’ signal and was crossing Mill Street in a northbound direction at the time of the incident, Osborn said.

Johnson was uninjured and was issued a summons for careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian within a crosswalk, Osborn said.
