NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Highland Lakes man has entered a guilty plea to burglary and theft charges, the prosecutor’s office said.
Gregory Lamantia, 27, pleaded guilty to six counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree theft before Honorable William J. McGovern, III at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on Wednesday.
Lamantia allegedly admitted to breaking into the sheds of various Vernon Township residents taking items such has lawn mowers, leaf blowers, generators, saws and various other yard tools. All of these crimes were committed during the month of July, 2017
On August 1, Vernon police conducted a traffic stop on Route 23 in West Milford and arrested Lamantia in connection with the string of burglaries in the Highland Lakes & Barry Lakes areas. During the traffic stop, police allegedly recovered several stolen items.
Lamantia is scheduled to be sentenced on October 27, 2017.
