MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – An earthquake occurred 1.24 miles SSW of Morristown Monday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake was reported shortly around 6:35 p.m., had a 1.7 magnitude and a depth of 5 kilometers or about 3.1 miles. The epicenter was reported near the intersection Washington Valley Rd and Ranney Hill Rd.
Many residents in nearby towns reported hearing a loud boom.
According to Morris Plains Lt. Mike Koroski, The Morris County Communications Center is currently fielding numerous calls, in excess of 20 at this time.
All of the calls in to Morris County Communication Center are residents reporting an explosion type sound accompanied with vibrations, Koroski said.
“We have no reports of injuries or property damage. None of the call required police, EMS, or FD response,” Koroski said.
