DOVER, NJ (Morris County) – A 23-year-old Dover man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to rob a man in Dover Tuesday evening, Dover Public Safety Director Daniel DeGroot said.

Kevin D. Quiroz has pending charges for three-counts of aggravated assault, weapons offenses and robbery, DeGroot said.

At 10:38 p.m., town police responded to 2 Green Tree Lane on report of an assault in progress, DeGroot said.

When police arrived, they observed three adult males restraining Quiroz by pinning him to the ground and the officers were advised he was armed with a knife, DeGroot said.

Police learned that Quiroz attempted to rob the victim of his cell phone, but the victim refused to turn it over and proceeded to enter his home, DeGroot said.

Quiroz tried to follow him inside and was met with resistance by the victim and his two brothers, at which time Quiroz brandished a knife and slashed the victim in the head, DeGroot said.

Quiroz then smashed the front door window of the home, and the victim and his brothers subdued him until police arrived, DeGroot said.

Quiroz, still armed with the knife, resisted arrest, but was disarmed and placed under arrest by the responding officers, DeGroot said.

The victim and his brothers were treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during the incident. The injuries are considered non-life threatening, DeGroot said.

Quiroz was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation pending clearance for incarceration, DeGroot said.

Assisting at the scene was the Morris County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigation section.
