LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A Washington woman was charged with DUI after she allegedly left the scene of a car accident on Saturday.
Mary R. Medina, 58, was charged with use or being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, refusal to submit to a breath test, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, failure to maintain a single lane and reckless driving.
Lopatcong Township police were dispatched to Route 57 in the area of Route 519 for a possible motor vehicle accident. It was reported that the single occupant of the vehicle was possibly having a medical emergency, police said.
Police arrived on scene and determined that Medina was under the influence and allegedly failed road side sobriety test, police said.
Police learned through eyewitnesses on scene that Medina was traveling County Route 519 North and attempted to make a right turn onto Route 57 East. She failed to negotiate the turn and struck the northern portion of the guiderail face/concrete bridge face that crosses the Lopatcong Creek, police said
Medina reversed her vehicle and again attempted to negotiate the turn and struck the southern portion of the guiderail face/concrete bridge face before leaving the scene. Prior to police arrival, eyewitnesses followed and eventually stopped Medina approximately one half mile east of the accident scene, police said.
Medina was released pending a court appearance.
