Donna Walling, the organizer of the Smiles for Margaret Memorial 5K, stopped by RNJ to chat with Morning Mike about this special event and the charity behind it. Donna’s daughter, Margaret, was diagnosed with a brain tumor several years ago. Donna gladly accepted help as she struggled to make end meet while providing care for her daughter. Donna and Margaret agreed to start a charity to help others once Margaret got well.
That healing didn’t happen, but Donna kept her promise starting the “Smiles for Margaret” organization, which helps families with children being treated for cancer and U.S. veterans, supporting local families and those in need.
The Smiles for Margaret Memorial 5K, the “Huff and Puff After You Stuff,” is Saturday, Nov. 25th, at Riverfront Park in Hackettstown. This is the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. at the American Legion on Willow Grove Street. The race starts at 10:10. Register online by Nov. 22rd for $22.75. Day of race registration is $25.
