SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Boonton man is facing drug charges after police allegedly find 15 wax folds of heroin, a crack stem and hypodermic needles during a traffic stop Monday evening.
Joseph Colon, 28, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of hypodermic needles and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 7:25 p.m., township police Corporal Marc Rubino was dispatched to the area of Glen Road and Main Street for a report of an erratic motor vehicle, Lt. John Lamon said.
Officer Rubino initiated a traffic stop with a beige Nissan Maxima on Main Street, across from the Sparta police station, Lamon said.
As Colon was gathering his documents, Officer Rubino observed two hypodermic needles, which was partially covered by a plastic bag, on the front passenger seat, Lamon said.
Sgt. Carbery arrived on scene and Colon was asked to step out of his vehicle, Lamon said.
A further search of the vehicle revealed 15 wax folds of heroin, a glass crack stem, numerous empty wax folds and three hypodermic needles, Lamon said.
Due to his extensive criminal history, his charges were placed on warrants and he was lodged in the Keogh Dwyer Correctional Facility, Lamon said.
