HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) — Santa Claus arrived at Hackettstown High School in a fire truck and was escorted by the Hackettstown and Mansfield police departments on Saturday to hand out gifts to over 300 children in need. The toy drive was organized by the policemen of Hackettstown-Mansfield PBA Local 369.
Sergeant Darren Tynan said that the toy drive provides an opportunity for police to give back to the community and show kids that police are ordinary people, too.
Volunteers from the high school Key Club, National Honor Society, Cheerleaders and from the community came to the high school on Friday to help wrap more than 1,000 gifts.
“It’s a great thing to support the local families in need. They’re going to have a Christmas as well as anybody else in town,” Tynan said.
Area businesses helped collect toys and the Hackettstown Applebee’s handed out lunch to all the families.
