DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A homeowner returned to his residence to find two suspected burglars attempting to break into his home Friday, detaining one suspect while police arrested the other.

Derek Edwards, 51, of Hackensack and Ryjamear T. Rouse, 19, of Paterson were charged with criminal attempt-burglary and burglary.

The homeowner arrived at his residence and found the two men allegedly attempting to break into his residence. He engaged the two men as they attempted to conceal themselves before attempting to flee, Denville Township Captain Keith Partin said.

One of the suspects was detained by the homeowner while the other fled the scene on foot. The second man was apprehended by the responding officers, Partin said.

Both men were arrested, and transported to police headquarters where they were further interviewed and confessed to the crime, Partin said.

Rouse was released pending a court appearance and Edwards was lodged in the Morris County Jail.
