HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Hackettstown man was charged Monday with causing a false public alarm after he told authorities he was robbed at gunpoint last year.
Through an investigation by the Hackettstown Detective Bureau, it was determined that Alfonzo XI Tzib, 33, allegedly was intoxicated and never robbed, police said.
The money that was allegedly taken was found by XI Tzib, police said.
It was originally reported that on November 23, 2017 at around 2:42 am., town police responded to Quick Chek, located at 146 Mountain Ave, in reference to a theft complaint.
When officers met with XI Tzib, he advised the officers that he was robbed at gunpoint.
Through a preliminary police investigation, it was revealed that XI Tzib was at a restaurant in Dover and was looking for a ride to Hackettstown. He was then approached by an older male, who portrayed himself as a taxi driver and offered the victim a ride.
The male was described as possibly Hispanic, tall, thin, with wrinkled skin on his face and wearing a black coat. The suspect was driving a silver vehicle, possibly a Ford Crown Victoria or a Mercury Grand Marquis and had no company logo on the vehicle.
Once in Hackettstown, the suspect pulled over near the Mountain Ave Quick Chek, brandished a silver handgun and demanded XI Tzib’s money. He then gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money and got out of the vehicle.
XI Tzib was released pending a court appearance.
