Dr. Helene Nguyen shares Winter Foot Care Tips with Morning Mike

On the RNJ Morning Program recently, Morning Mike welcomed Dr. Helene Nguyen, of Feet ’N’ Beyond, 188 Mountain Ave. in Hackettstown. Early on a cold January morning (fresh from an emergency visit to see a patient at a hospital), Dr. Nguyen stopped by specifically to share information about tips for winter foot care. Just because we hide our feet in in boots and warm, fuzzy slippers doesn’t mean that we should let them go. Our feet and skin tend to get dryer during the winter; to keep them healthy, they need just as much TLC as they do during the warm months.

For example, Dr. Helene suggested soaking your feet occasionally in warm water with lavender oil. Avoid epsom salts and other warm-weather soaks that tend to dry out your skin. She also suggested using foot cream at least once a day to keep skin moist. Other tips included giving your toe nails a “rest” from polish and making sure you dry out boots and wet footwear before putting them on again. Feet ’N’ Beyond is continuing its offer of free foot exams for RNJ listeners during the month of January. Call 908-576-0880 or stop by their offices at 188 Mountain Ave. (in the Skylands Center with iHOP and Fulton Bank of NJ) to schedule a free 15-minute for exam and consultation.
