BUSHKILL, PA (Pike County) – The federal government shutdown isn’t barring the public from enjoying the Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, but it will effect maintenance and other services.
According to the U.S. Department of Interior, national parks will remain as accessible as possible, while following certain laws and procedures.
That mean’s folks looking to get a glimpse of the Delaware River’s ice jam will be able to do so if they please. Trails, park roads, and look outs will still be open to visitors as long as conditions permit.
Officials do note that emergency and rescue services will be limited.
In addition, no NPS-provided visitor services will be provided. Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area authorities say that includes public information, restrooms, trash collection, and facilities and roads maintenance.
All park programs have been canceled. However, the following departments will remain open: Pocono Environmental Education Center, Peters Valley School of Craft, Mohican Outdoor Center and Bushkill Outreach.
Primary roads will be plowed in the event of a snowstorm.
