MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A 31-year-old-man was jailed after he allegedly created a fake Facebook account using his ex-girlfriend’s information to send himself harassing messages.

Jeffery W. Kain was charged on January 10, with making false reports to law enforcement and false swearing under oath.

On July 12, 2017, Kain called police to report he was receiving harassing messages on Facebook from his ex-girlfriend, police said.

Kain indicated he wanted to apply for a restraining order and showed the officer the messages. He then spoke with a Judge and provided the same information, police said.

The restraining order was granted and his ex-girlfriend was served with the order. She indicated she did not send the messages, police said.

An investigation by the detective bureau showed Kain had created the Facebook account using his ex-girlfriend’s information and sent the messages to himself, police said

Kain was lodged in the Warren County Jail pending a court appearance.
