Belvidere man charged in hit-and-run crash in Mansfield Twp.

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Police say they have arrested the driver in a hit-and-run crash in Mansfield Township.

Jacob E. Watters, 36, of Belvidere, NJ was charged on Wednesday with third-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident where serious bodily injury occurred, fourth-degree assault by auto with serious bodily injury, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, and reckless driving.

At around 2:55 p.m. on January 23, township police were dispatched to Pequest Road on the report of a hit-and-run involving a struck pedestrian, police said.

The 64-year-old woman was walking east on Pequest Road when she was struck by a pickup truck, allegedly driven by Watters, traveling west causing her substantial injuries, police said.

The pickup truck continued traveling west on Pequest Road after striking the female, police said.

The female was transported to St. Lukes Hospital in Bethlehem for treatment of her injuries, police said.

Watters was released pending an appearance in Superior Court.
