HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Alex Carida broke the school record for career high school wins Saturday during a quad wrestling match in Caldwell.
The Hackettstown High School senior is 126-27 overall and broke the previous record of 123 wins held by Joe Renne in 2016.
Carida earned his 124 win by defeating Ben Baily of Montclair, 17-1, at 145 pounds. Tigers defeated Montclair 43-24.
Carida earned his 125 win by defeating Dylan Waller of Manalapan, 2-0, at 152 pounds. Manalapan defeated the Tigers 46-28.
On Monday, Carida earned his 126 win by defeating Nickolas Chalarca of Dumont, 14-5, at 152 pounds in the NJSIAA North 2, Group 2 Tournament Round 1. The Tigers defeated Dumont 38-33.
Carida is currently ranked second in the state after beating Robert Garcia from Pope John, to win the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex tournament for the 2nd consecutive year. He is the first Hackettstown High School wrestler to win the title twice. He was also named outstanding wrestler at that tournament.
Third-seeded Hackettstown wrestling team will face second-seeded Caldwell in the NJSIAA Tournament, semifinal round, North Jersey, section 2, group 2 tonight at 7:00 p.m.
