LOPATCONG TOWNHSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Lopatcong Township Police say a Phillipsburg man had a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit (.22%) when he crashed his vehicle on Fox Farm Road Sunday morning.
Thomas L. Bolan, 22, was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and failure to maintain lanes.
At around 1:25 a.m., township police were dispatched to the area of 32 Fox Farm Rd. for the report of a single vehicle crash, police said.
When officers arrived, they observed a vehicle that had driven off the roadway and down into a ditch. Bolan was observed climbing out of the passenger side of the vehicle, police said.
While the officer was speaking with Boylan, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. Boylan later failed several field sobriety tests, and was subsequently taken into custody for driving while intoxicated, police said.
“Boylan provided breath samples and was found to have a .22% BAC, nearly three times the legal limit in the State of New Jersey,” police said.
Boylan was released to a friend with a future Lopatcong Municipal Court date.
