DELAWARE WATER GAP, P.A. – Motorists entering Pennsylvania at the Delaware Water Gap (I-80) Toll Bridge may encounter slight travel delays during overnight periods the next two weeks, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission said.
The toll facility’s Express E-ZPass lane and shoulder will be closed on six upcoming nights to allow for installation of next-generation electronic toll-collection devices and testing of the new equipment, according to a news release.
The anticipated work will be from 9 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. most days with one day work is scheduled from 10:00 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Here is a list of the work schedule:
– Tuesday, June 28
– Wednesday, June 29
– Thursday, June 30 (10:00 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
– Tuesday, July 5,
– Wednesday, July 6
– Thursday, July 7
The listed travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, and traffic considerations. Motorists should reduce their speeds whenever traveling through a designated work zone, DRJTBC said.
All motorists will need to use the adjoining conventional barrier toll plaza during the weeknight periods when the Express E-ZPass facility is shutdown. The barrier plaza consists of four toll lanes that handle cash and E-ZPass transactions and a fifth lane dedicated to handling only vehicles with E-ZPass tags. Motorists should consider allowing extra time to reach their destinations during the limited period the Express E-ZPass facility is out of service, the news release said.
The toll equipment and testing work at the Express E-ZPass facility is an early facet of a broader project to modernize the Commission’s electronic and manual toll collection systems. The Commission’s current system consists of outdated technology installed in 2002 and that has reached the end of its useful life. The broader project is expected to reach completion in early 2017, DRJTBC said.
