HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren C0unty) -The parents of three young children found alone in their apartment Wednesday morning are facing charges, police said.
At around 8:04 a.m., town police assisted the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with serving an ICE warrant on Luis Froilan Ortega-Calle, 30, of Hackettstown, NJ who lived at an apartment on the 100 block of Main St, police said.
The officers knocked on the door and a 6-year-old female answered. The officers observed the apartment to be disheveled and unclean. Police determined that she was left home alone with her 9-month-old and 3-year-old sisters, police said.
As the officers were standing outside the apartment building, the officers observed Ortega-Calle and Josselyn Eneida DeLeon-Garcia, 26, of Hackettstown, NJ turn the corner onto Main Street from the alley way next to Marley’s Gotham Grill. When they saw the officers, they turned around and ran back down the alley way. The officers caught up to them on Sharp Street next to municipal lot #2. Ortega-Calle was taken into custody by ICE officers, police said.
Through a police investigation it was determined that Ortega-Calle and DeLeon-Garcia left the children without care or supervision while they went to work from June 26 at around 11:30 p.m. to June 27 at around 8:30 a.m., police said.
The Division of Child Protection and Permanency took custody of the children from the scene, police said.
Ortega-Calle and DeLeon-Garcia were charged with three counts of second-degree child neglect. DeLeon Garcia was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility and Ortega-Calle is lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility.
