SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Two New Jersey men are facing charges after they were stopped in a stolen vehicle Saturday morning on Sparta Township.
Shaquan Kyle-Knight, 19, of East Orange was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a narcotic prescription drug and numerous motor vehicle summonses.
Shyheim Oliver, 19, of Montclair was charged with receiving stolen property.
At around 11:15 p.m., a township officer observed a maroon Toyota Rav4 on Route 15 allegedly travelling 93 mph in a 55 mph zone, Sparta Township Lieutenant John Lamon said.
After stopping the vehicle, the driver, Kyle-Knight, was only able to produce a NJ identification card. When asked about his driver’s license and registration, he stated that he left his license at home and that his girlfriend had the registration, since it was her vehicle, Lamon said.
When asked where he and his passenger, Shyheim Oliver, were headed, Kyle-Knight stated that they were headed to Hamburg to visit his grandmother, Lamon said.
The vehicle had a temporary tag that was not in the division of motor vehicle system and the tag showed the vehicle as being an Acura. A check on the vehicle identification number revealed that the vehicle was stolen out of Newark on June 25, Lamon said.
Kyle-Knight was also found to be in possession of a narcotic prescription that belonged to the owner of the vehicle, Lamon said.
Kyle-Knight and Oliver were both placed under arrest and transported to Sparta Police Station for processing, Lamon said.
The vehicle was impounded and secured for safekeeping until Newark PD could contact the owner to come to Sparta to retrieve the vehicle.
Both were lodged in the Keogh Dwyer Correctional facility to await their court appearances.
