MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Budd Lake man is facing multiple charges after he was stopped by police Wednesday afternoon in Mount Olive Township.

Jared Kaye, 19, was charged with taking motor vehicle without owner’s consent, theft of movable property, failure to exhibit documents, leaving the scene of an accident, obstruction, under the influence of controlled dangerous substance, suspended driver and reckless driving.

At around 2:22 p.m., township detectives were in the Village Green Apartment complex when they observed Kaye driving a black Chrysler. Detectives knew Kaye from previous incidents, and had knowledge that he had a suspended driver’s license, police said.

Detectives initiated a motor vehicle stop and Kaye pulled into a parking spot near one of the apartments. As Kaye parked the car, he struck the vehicle parked next to his vehicle. Police noticed Kaye was under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, police said.

Police contacted the owner of the vehicle being driven by Kaye, and they were advised that he didn’t have permission to drive the vehicle, police said.

During the course of the investigation, Kaye didn’t cooperate with officers on scene. He was allegedly in possession of stolen credit and debit cards, police said.

Kaye was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing.

Kaye was released pending a court hearing.
