POHATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) – The Pohatcong Twp Police Department announced on its Facebook page Tuesday that officers are participating in “No-Shave November.”
This event is a month long journey during which participants forgo shaving and grooming in order to evoke conversation and raise awareness for cancer prevention, research and education, police said.
Our participating officers have chosen a donation goal of $2500.00 for the cause. Each officer that participates has donated money to do so. We would be blessed if others would support the cause and make a donation under our team page, police said.
“No-Shave November” is proud to work with the American Cancer Society, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Flight Colorectal Cancer community and St. Judea Children’s Research Hospital, police said.
Each day, 22,000 people die from cancer worldwide (WHO). There’s a good chance that someone you know and love will be affected by this disease. Nearly half of cancer diagnoses and deaths are preventable. No-Shave November’s mission is to not only raise funds for cancer research and treatment but to educate the population about preventative measures, according to the No Shave November website.
For over six years, participants around the globe have put down their razors and foregone their hair appointments to join the fight against cancer. The No-Shave November campaign has successfully raised over $3.5 million dollars to combat this disease. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer in our efforts to fund cancer research and education, help prevent the disease, and aid those fighting the battle. Each whisker grown allows us to embrace our hair, which many cancer patients lose during treatment.
Any questions, people can contact Sgt. Ryan Barsony at 908-454-9836. A picture will be posted at the end of the month of all Officers who participated.
