Man throws beer bottle at car to get a ride

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sparta man was charged after he allegedly threw a bottle at a moving car on Wednesday evening.

At 9:33 p.m., township officers were dispatched to the area of Sparta Avenue near the Quick Chek for a report of a male walking on the side of the road who threw a beer bottle at a passing vehicle, police said.

Upon their arrival, police located the male, identified as Mark R. Shaw, 40,  in the Reverend Brown School parking lot, police said.

When asked what occurred, Shaw admitted that he threw the bottle at the car because he wanted it to stop so he could get a ride, police said.

The driver of the damaged vehicle returned to the scene and the officers were able to observe a small dent and scratches on the paint caused by the bottle, police said.

Shaw was charged with criminal mischief and released pending a court date.
