MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County)– A Port Murray man who allegedly posted a Snapchat video of him speeding caused a crash that killed his dog.

Christopher Adams, 22, was charged with DWI, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to stay in marked lanes, cell phone use while operating a motor vehicle, an equipment violation, and fourth-degree animal cruelty by recklessly causing death to an animal.

On February 12, at 6:51 p.m., township police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Jackson Valley Road, police said.

When the officers arrived, they observed a 2012 Honda Civic in the woods with its front end ripped completely off the rest of the vehicle. Adams was extricated from the vehicle by fire and rescue, police said.

A dog in the vehicle was deceased as a result of the crash, police said.

The investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed when it crossed over the center line and left the roadway striking several trees, police said.

Officers detected the odor of alcoholic beverages on the driver’s breath, police said.

He was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital for treatment and a blood draw to determine his blood alcohol content, police said.

A Snapchat video that was posted just prior to the crash showed the vehicle traveling between 85 and 90 miles per hour, police said.

Adams was released pending a court appearance.
