Two charged with theft and burglary

MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Two men were have been arrested in connection with a car burglary that occurred earlier this month in Mendham Township.

Shakir Kelly and Kendel Smith both of Irvington, NJ were charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and theft.

On July 1, police responded to a residence on Calais Rd for a burglary to their motor vehicle that happened over night, police said.

The homeowner’s surveillance captured the burglary and they were able to provide us with images of the suspects, police said.

Through a joint investigation with the Mendham Boro PD and other towns with similar incidents, police were able to get a positive ID the suspects as Kelly and Smith, police said.

Kelly and Smith are currently incarcerated.

Police reminded residents to always lock your vehicles and never leave your key fob inside of your vehicle. If you see anything suspicious at any time of the day or night, please contact police immediately.
